'The 2026 edition draws on responses from 32 GI groups spanning 20 countries across 5 continents — covering agricultural products, wines, spirits, and crafts – and reflecting the diversity of the estimated 20,000 GIs recognised internationally.'

Though not in London to attend in person, reading the press release;-

20,000 GIs... that's quite a number.

Essentially, GIs, e.g., Champagne, Prosciutto, Parmigiano Reggiano, act as geographical 'anchors'. With proper protections, those products - to acquire - must come from the specific region designated for the GI. My interest is not just in the export value, but in the relationship with domain names, where the consortia/ GI groups wish to penetrate the UK market. Both through 'exact-match keywords' and other strategies...
